Sheinbaum assures unionized employees that she will defend their salaries and labor perks. Sheinbaum commits to safeguarding the wages and labor advantages of unionized workers

Five days into the official launch of the presidential pre-campaign, the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM) aligned itself with presidential candidate Claudia Sheinbaum.

During the XV National Ordinary Congress of this labor union, consisting of 1,194 organizations and unions nationwide, the National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the 4T encouraged workers to back her candidacy. At the Arena Ciudad de México, the former government leader promised to uphold workers’ wages and benefits.

“I invite everyone to join us in this journey, and I assure Mexican workers that we will persist in safeguarding their wages and labor benefits because we understand that the prosperity of Mexican workers benefits both employers and our nation,” she stated.

Sheinbaum Pardo also emphasized the significant increase in the minimum wage, which has tripled in the northern border region since 2018 and doubled across the rest of the country, without causing inflation and with “historic” foreign direct investment.

In light of this, Pedro Haces Barba, General Secretary of CATEM, reflected on the labor achievements made during the current administration, such as union freedom, the elimination of outsourcing, profit sharing enhancements, and the minimum wage hike.

Regarding the latter, the senator urged the business community to “reflect deeply” and ensure a substantial salary increase for workers in 2024.

“Dear entrepreneurs, I appeal to your conscience; we hope that this year you will consider the well-being of workers. Paco, let’s not ignore this issue; entrepreneurs should prioritize this matter to ensure a fair salary increase for all Mexicans,” he urged.

With the integration of 10,000 Committees for the Defense of Labor Transformation, CATEM committed to endorsing Claudia Sheinbaum’s presidential candidacy. Pedro Haces Pedro Haces
