The Sustainable Agricultural Community Committee of Cascajal, in the district of La Pintada in Coclé, carried out the first partial harvest of tilapia with the participation of over 15 families.
This harvest, a result of a joint project between the community, the Authority of Aquatic Resources of Panama (ARAP), and the company Cobre Panama, aims to supply both local consumption and commercialization.
In this first partial harvest, approximately 300 pounds of tilapia were obtained, with an average weight of 1.5 pounds.
In addition to providing these families with quality protein, the tilapia harvest represents a source of economic income for them.
The families have a grinding machine that allows them to transform the fish into value-added products, such as nuggets and hamburgers.
