Met Office issue weather warning for weekend of torrential rain in Wales

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain in Wales. The forecaster has warned that persistent and at times heavy rain could bring some disruption to parts of Wales.

The warning will come into force at 10pm on Saturday, December 23, and will last until 6pm on Sunday, December 24, the Met Office has said. The affected areas include counties of west Wales, north Wales as well as mid Wales.

The affected areas are Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Powys and Wrexham. The Met Office has warned that some areas could experience 0-80 mm of rain during this period.

In the weather warning, they said: "A band of rain will slowly move south across Wales on Saturday evening and through Sunday, probably clearing to the south later in the day on Sunday. 20-40 mm of rain may accumulate quite widely within the warning area, but west-facing high ground could see 60-80 mm of rain during this period. Strong and gusty winds will accompany the rainfall."

The forecaster has warned that flooding of a few homes and businesses is possible during this period. They have also warned that the rain could bring some interruption to power supplies and other services.

This could also mean that bus and train services will probably be affected with journey times taking longer, and spray and flooding on roads will probably be making journey times longer.
