There is almost nothing better than a nice nap after enjoying a tasty Christmas dinner on the big day. But as tempting as it may be to kick-back and have a few hours to yourself, a health expert claims it is better for you to resist the urge.
A study from Nectar Sleep found that 66 per cent of Brits say they feel more stressed during the festive period, leading to lack of sleep. This, combined with travel and socialising, and the 'big day', seems like a perfect time to get a some shut eye.
However, speaking to Cosmopolitan UK, sleep expert Tracy Hannigan, has revealed the perfect amount of time to snooze on Christmas Day if you really have to. She adds that it means getting the benefits of a nap, without tipping over into full blown sleep.
How long to nap on Christmas Day
According to Hannigan, if you're going to nap, make sure you do so for a maximum of half an hour and make sure to set an alarm. She explained: "An ideal length for a holiday nap would be between 20 and 30 minutes.
"Less than that and the nap may not be refreshing enough, but longer than that and the nap may reduce a person's overall sleep drive and could make sleep more challenging that night." When it comes to time of day, you'll need to be tactical to get in a nap at the perfect time.
