Child opens Spiderman toy box on Christmas Day and finds grouting inside instead

A family have been left shocked and "disappointed" after a Christmas present for their son turned out to be a box filled with random items – including coat hangers and grouting – instead of the Spiderman toy as advertised. Katie Lyn said that the sealed box bought by her mother-in-law looked "normal" from the outside.

The gift had been bought for her son Austin for Christmas but when it was opened on Boxing Day was filled with junk. The gift was bought from a B&M store in Llanelli and cost £45. The family have yet to be back to the store to ask what has happened. This is the second instance in south Wales this week of toys bought from B&M being filled with random objects.

Nathan Watters from Neath said he could see "the disappointment and Christmas being ripped out" of his four-year-old son Peter on Christmas Day when the boy's main present – a Hot Wheels racetrack – was instead filled with items such as coathangers and wooden photo frames. You can read more about that here.

In that instance, B&M employees told Mr Watters that it was a manufacturing issue that had caused the mix-up. Katie has yet to be back to the Trostre store to report the same problem. From the outside, the boxes appeared normal and the sounds inside or the random items seemed to mimic the parts usually used when constructing such toys.

As well as the coat hangers, the mum found a Fila handbag, and a carrier bag filled with anti mould grout shoved into the box. She said she was particularly concerned about the grout and stressed that it could be dangerous to Children.
