Police appeal after alleged serious sex assault near Cardiff city centre

Police in Cardiff are appealing for witnesses to a serious sexual assault that allegedly happened near the city centre. South Wales Police say the incident is reported to have occurred between Callaghan Square and St Mary’s Street, Cardiff, in the early hours of Tuesday, December 27.

A statement from the force said the attack is alleged to have happened between 5am and 6am. The offence took place underneath the railway bridge which borders Callaghan Square and St Mary’s Street.

The force has issued a CCTV image of someone who may be able to help with the inquiries because they were in the area at the time. One man has been arrested in connection with the assault.

A spokesman said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses to help the investigation, particularly a security guard wearing a hi visibility vest who witnessed the assault and appears to intervene to help the victim."
