Morero announces R3 billion allocation to infrastructure updgrade

On Tuesday, the 28th of May, Johannesburg’s Executive Mayor, Herman Mashaba, delivered the highly anticipated State of the City Address under the theme ‘The Jo’burg We All Want’. The event, held at the iconic City Hall, was attended by government officials, business leaders, community members and media representatives, all eager to hear the Mayor’s plans for the city.

In his speech, Mayor Mashaba highlighted the progress made by the city in the past year and outlined his vision for a better Johannesburg. He began by acknowledging the challenges faced by the city, including high unemployment rates, crime and corruption, but emphasized that these challenges will not deter the city from achieving its full potential.

The Mayor’s address focused on three key areas: economic growth, service delivery and fighting corruption. He stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, as this will lead to job creation and ultimately improve the lives of the city’s residents. He also announced plans to attract more investment into the city, particularly in the neglected areas of the inner city.

On the issue of service delivery, Mayor Mashaba acknowledged that there is still much work to be done. However, he highlighted the improvements made in the past year, such as the electrification of informal settlements and the provision of free Wi-Fi in public areas. He also announced plans to upgrade the city’s public transport system, making it more efficient and accessible for all residents.

One of the most significant aspects of the Mayor’s address was his commitment to fighting corruption in the city. He emphasized that corruption is a major hindrance to the city’s progress and pledged to root out any corrupt practices within the city’s administration. He also encouraged residents to report any instances of corruption they may come across, as the city cannot tackle this issue alone.

Mayor Mashaba’s address was met with a positive response from the audience, with many commending his bold and ambitious plans for the city. His vision for a better Johannesburg, where all residents can thrive, was inspiring and motivating.

In his closing remarks, the Mayor reiterated his commitment to making Johannesburg a city that works for all its residents. He urged everyone to work together towards this common goal, regardless of political affiliations or backgrounds. He also encouraged residents to take ownership of their city and to play an active role in its development.

The State of the City Address was not only a platform for the Mayor to showcase the city’s progress, but also a call to action for all stakeholders to work together towards a better Johannesburg. It was a reminder that the city’s success depends on the collective efforts of its residents, government and business leaders.

As we look towards the future, it is clear that Mayor Mashaba’s leadership and vision will play a crucial role in shaping the Jo’burg we all want. With his determination and dedication, there is no doubt that Johannesburg will continue to grow and prosper, becoming a city that we can all be proud of. Let us all join hands and work towards making this vision a reality.
