Line of Duty star gives fans update on new series but it won’t be one they like

Fans of the hit BBC police drama, Line of Duty, have been eagerly awaiting news of the show’s return for its highly anticipated sixth series. However, lead actor Martin Compston has revealed that fans may have to wait a bit longer for the new season.

In an interview with BBC Radio Scotland, Compston, who plays the role of Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, stated that the new series is still “a way off” due to the difficulty of aligning his and his co-stars’ schedules. The show, which follows the investigations of the fictional anti-corruption unit AC-12, has gained a massive following since its debut in 2012, with each season leaving audiences on the edge of their seats.

Compston’s comments come as a disappointment for fans who have been eagerly anticipating the return of the show, especially after the explosive finale of season five. However, the actor assured fans that the delay is due to the high standards of the show and the dedication of the cast and crew.

“It’s just one of those things, unfortunately. I think everybody’s in the same boat. A lot of shows have been put on hold. We definitely won’t get it done this year, so I think we’re looking to next year,” Compston said.

The delay in production of the new series is understandable, given the current global situation. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has caused major disruptions in the entertainment industry, forcing many productions to come to a halt. With strict safety measures in place, it is not surprising that aligning schedules and filming has become a challenge for the Line of Duty team.

Despite the setback, Compston remains positive and is looking forward to getting back on set with his co-stars, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar, who play Detective Inspector Kate Fleming and Superintendent Ted Hastings, respectively. The trio’s chemistry and on-screen dynamic have been a major factor in the show’s success, and fans are excited to see them reunite for another thrilling season.

“We’re all desperate to get back to work. There’s a lot of moving parts, there’s a lot of things that need to be aligned, but we will make it work. We just want to get back and finish it off,” Compston added.

The delay in production may be a disappointment for fans, but it also shows the dedication of the cast and crew to deliver a top-quality season. The show’s creator, Jed Mercurio, is known for his attention to detail and intricate plot twists, which have kept viewers on the edge of their seats. With the high expectations set by previous seasons, it is understandable that the team wants to take their time to ensure the new series meets the same standard.

Line of Duty has become a cultural phenomenon, with its gripping storylines, complex characters, and outstanding performances. The show has received critical acclaim and has been praised for its realistic portrayal of police work and the impact of corruption in the force. It has also been a major success internationally, with fans eagerly awaiting the new season in countries such as the United States and Australia.

The show’s popularity has also led to speculation about the future of the series, with talks of potential spin-offs and even a movie adaptation. However, Compston remains focused on the current season and is confident that it will live up to fans’ expectations.

“We will get it back and it will be better than ever, I’m sure,” he said.

Although the wait for the new season may be a bit longer than expected, fans can rest assured that the team behind Line of Duty is working hard to deliver another thrilling season. As Compston said, “Good things come to those who wait,” and with the dedication and talent of the cast and crew, the wait will undoubtedly be worth it.
