In the Arena Ciudad de México in Azcapotzalco, Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the National Coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, confirmed the alliance between CATEM (Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico), led by Senator Pedro Haces Barba, and the Fourth Transformation, during a gathering of 25 thousand delegates.
In her address to the 10,000 Labor Committees in Defense of the Fourth Transformation organized by CATEM, Sheinbaum Pardo affirmed her commitment to simultaneously protecting the labor rights of the working class and ensuring an increase in the minimum wage in Mexico.
As the special guest at the XV CATEM Congress, Sheinbaum emphasized the favorable actions taken by the current administration in support of workers. She expressed a dedication to fostering improvements not only in wages but also in training and other benefits, including freedom of association. She clarified that the country has undergone significant change, and there is no desire to return to the past.
Pedro Haces Barba, the national leader of CATEM, expressed gratitude to Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum for her visit as a special guest, reiterating the welcome to the House of the Fourth Transformation and the commitment to the consolidation of the transformation in Mexico.
Haces Barba recalled the founding of CATEM in November 2010, emphasizing the organization’s goal to break paradigms and transform Mexican unionism. He highlighted the achievements of the organization over the past 15 years and mentioned that the statutes were modified during the congress.
In his speech, Haces Barba emphasized that all sectors of Mexican society remain united for the same cause: the defense of the rights and dignity of human beings through the labor struggle. He underscored the role of CATEM as Mexico’s modern unionism and the hope it offers to thousands of workers seeking a different option. Haces Barba praised the historic labor-related actions promoted by the current government, such as the approval of Convention 98 of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the labor reform that provided workers with the opportunity to choose their union.
The CATEM leader also acknowledged the historic increases in the minimum wage promoted by the government of President López Obrador, thanking both the president and employers for their contribution. Additionally, he reaffirmed the alliance of CATEM with the labor transformation of Mexico since the XV National Congress.
The event was attended by several special guests, including governors, federal and local legislators, as well as prominent businessmen.
