Today, the negotiation table has been officially established to discuss a new concession contract with Minera Panamá.
The Minister of Commerce and Industries, Ramón Martínez, who leads the negotiating team appointed by the President of the Republic, has stated that these sessions will address various topics related to economic, fiscal, environmental, labor, and social aspects. The objective is to ensure that the operation of the mine complies with international best practices standards.
Martínez warned that if an agreement is not reached on the proposed terms, they will explore the possibility of negotiating with another company. According to the minister, they will not proceed under the “current conditions.”
On the other hand, Minera Panamá expressed in a statement their confidence that this process will be transparent, rigorous, and in the best interest of the country. They also hope that the best interests of the State and the company’s acquired rights will be respected, seeking the most favorable results for Panama.
Manuel Aizpurúa, spokesperson and member of the company’s negotiating team, emphasized the importance of having the negotiation table as a space that values private capital investment and ensures legal security. The goal is to achieve a mutually beneficial outcome for all parties involved and for the country.
