Gauteng CoGTA MEC Jacob Mamabolo has hit back at ActionSA following their recent criticism of the provincial government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a press conference held yesterday, Mamabolo addressed the allegations made by the newly-formed political party and defended the government’s actions.
ActionSA, led by former Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba, accused the Gauteng government of failing to effectively manage the pandemic and called for a change in leadership. However, Mamabolo was quick to refute these claims, stating that the government has been working tirelessly to combat the virus and its effects on the province.
“We are deeply disappointed by the baseless accusations made by ActionSA. The Gauteng government has been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19, and we have been working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our citizens,” said Mamabolo.
He went on to highlight the various measures that have been put in place by the government to mitigate the spread of the virus. This includes the establishment of quarantine and isolation facilities, the distribution of personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline workers, and the implementation of strict lockdown measures.
Mamabolo also pointed out that Gauteng has the highest number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country, which is a testament to the government’s efforts in containing the virus. “We have been working closely with the national government and other stakeholders to ensure that we are well-equipped to handle the pandemic. Our efforts have not gone unnoticed, and we will continue to do everything in our power to protect the people of Gauteng,” he added.
The MEC also took the opportunity to address the criticism surrounding the province’s vaccine rollout plan. He assured the public that the government is working tirelessly to secure enough vaccines for the entire population, and that the process will be rolled out in a fair and transparent manner.
“We understand the urgency of the situation, and we are doing everything we can to secure enough vaccines for our citizens. We will ensure that the rollout is done in a fair and transparent manner, prioritizing those who are most at risk,” said Mamabolo.
He also urged the public to remain calm and continue adhering to the COVID-19 regulations, as the fight against the virus is far from over. “We must all work together to overcome this pandemic. Let us not be divided by baseless accusations and political agendas. Instead, let us unite and support one another in this difficult time,” he added.
In conclusion, Mamabolo emphasized that the Gauteng government remains committed to the well-being of its citizens and will continue to work tirelessly to mitigate the effects of the pandemic. He also urged political parties to put aside their differences and work together in the interest of the people.
“We will not be deterred by the criticism of ActionSA or any other political party. Our focus remains on protecting the people of Gauteng and ensuring that we emerge from this pandemic stronger and more resilient,” he said.
The MEC’s response to ActionSA’s criticism has been met with praise and support from the public, who have commended the government’s efforts in managing the pandemic. It is clear that the Gauteng government is dedicated to the well-being of its citizens and will not let baseless accusations hinder their progress in the fight against COVID-19.
