Moulton: Trump ‘resorting to war crimes’ to get out of Iran war

Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton (Mass.) has strongly condemned President Trump’s recent threats against Iran, calling them “war crimes” and a dangerous escalation of tensions between the two nations.

In a speech to the nation on Wednesday evening, President Trump warned Iran that any attack on American assets or personnel would be met with a swift and severe response. He also threatened to decimate Iran’s energy infrastructure and send the regime “back to the Stone Ages.”

Rep. Moulton, a former Marine Corps officer and Iraq War veteran, expressed his concern over the president’s remarks, stating that they were “reckless and irresponsible.” He added, “President Trump is resorting to war crimes in an attempt to end the ongoing military operations against Iran.”

The congressman’s comments come as tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a boiling point in recent weeks. The U.S. has accused Iran of attacking oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman and shooting down an American drone, while Iran has denied these allegations and accused the U.S. of provoking a conflict.

Rep. Moulton, who is also a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, urged the Trump administration to pursue diplomatic solutions rather than military action. He stated, “We cannot afford to engage in another costly and devastating war in the Middle East. We must exhaust all diplomatic options before resorting to military force.”

The congressman also criticized the president for his lack of consultation with Congress before making such serious threats. He stated, “The Constitution gives Congress the power to declare war, not the president. It is deeply concerning that President Trump is making these decisions without consulting Congress or seeking their approval.”

Rep. Moulton’s sentiments were echoed by other Democratic lawmakers, who have also expressed their concerns over the president’s aggressive stance towards Iran. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated, “The president’s reckless and dangerous threats towards Iran are not only irresponsible but also undermine our national security.”

The congressman also called on the American people to speak out against the president’s actions and demand a peaceful resolution to the current crisis. He stated, “It is up to us, the American people, to hold our leaders accountable and demand that they pursue diplomatic solutions rather than resorting to war.”

In his speech, President Trump also announced new sanctions against Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other top officials. However, Rep. Moulton believes that these measures will only further escalate tensions and make it more difficult to find a peaceful resolution.

He stated, “Sanctions have not worked in the past and they will not work now. They only serve to harm innocent civilians and further isolate Iran, making it harder to find a path towards peace.”

In conclusion, Rep. Moulton’s strong condemnation of President Trump’s threats against Iran highlights the growing concern over the possibility of a military conflict between the two nations. As tensions continue to rise, it is crucial for leaders to prioritize diplomacy and avoid any actions that could lead to devastating consequences. The American people must also make their voices heard and demand a peaceful resolution to this crisis.
