Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) has recently expressed his disappointment with Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Texas) for entering the GOP Senate primary in the Lone Star State. In an interview on “The Mark Davis Show” on Thursday, Patrick slammed Hunt for his decision to run for Senate, stating that he should have never entered the race.
Hunt, a former Army officer and businessman, came in a distant third in Tuesday’s primary, receiving only 13.5 percent of the vote. This was a significant blow to his campaign, as he had been considered a strong contender in the race.
Patrick, who has been a vocal supporter of incumbent Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), did not hold back in his criticism of Hunt. He stated that Hunt’s entry into the race was a mistake and that he should have instead focused on running for a different office.
“Wesley Hunt should have never gotten in this race,” Patrick said. “He should have run for a different position, maybe a congressional seat or a state office. But to challenge a sitting senator who has been a strong conservative voice for Texas, that was a mistake.”
Patrick’s comments have sparked a debate within the Republican party, with some questioning his loyalty to Cornyn and others defending Hunt’s decision to run for Senate.
Hunt, on the other hand, has remained positive and determined despite his loss in the primary. In a statement, he thanked his supporters and congratulated Cornyn on his victory.
“I am incredibly grateful for the support and encouragement I received throughout this campaign,” Hunt said. “While the results were not what we had hoped for, I am proud of the campaign we ran and the message we delivered.”
Hunt’s campaign focused on issues such as national security, immigration, and healthcare, and he was seen as a rising star within the Republican party. However, his loss in the primary has raised questions about the future of his political career.
Despite the disappointment, Hunt remains committed to serving his community and making a positive impact. He has not ruled out the possibility of running for office again in the future.
“I will continue to fight for the values and principles that make Texas and America great,” Hunt said. “I am not done serving my country and my community, and I will continue to look for ways to make a difference.”
Meanwhile, Cornyn has expressed his gratitude to the voters of Texas for their support and has shifted his focus to the general election in November. He will face Democratic nominee MJ Hegar, a former Air Force pilot, in what is expected to be a closely contested race.
Patrick, who has been a strong advocate for conservative values and policies, has urged Republicans to unite behind Cornyn and ensure his re-election in November.
“Now is the time for all Republicans to come together and support Senator Cornyn,” Patrick said. “We cannot afford to lose this seat to the Democrats, and we need to make sure that Senator Cornyn continues to represent Texas in the Senate.”
As the race for the Senate seat in Texas heats up, it is clear that the Republican party is facing some internal divisions. However, it is also evident that they are determined to maintain their stronghold in the state and continue to fight for their conservative values.
In the end, it will be up to the voters of Texas to decide who will represent them in the Senate. But one thing is for sure, the Republican party will need to come together and present a united front if they want to secure a victory in November.
