Utah Republican announces he won’t seek reelection

Rep. Burgess Owens (R-Utah) has announced that he will not be seeking reelection in 2026, joining a growing number of House Republicans who have decided not to run for Congress again this year. In a statement released on Wednesday, Owens cited prayer, reflection, and many long conversations as the reasons behind his decision.

“After much thought and consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking reelection in 2026. This was not an easy decision, but after prayer and reflection, I believe it is the right one for me and my family,” Owens said.

Owens, who was elected to Congress in 2020, has been a strong advocate for conservative values and has been a vocal supporter of former President Donald Trump. He has also been a fierce critic of the Biden administration’s policies, particularly on immigration and gun control.

During his time in Congress, Owens has been a dedicated public servant, working tirelessly to represent the people of Utah and fight for their interests. He has been a strong voice for his constituents and has been a staunch defender of the Constitution.

In his statement, Owens expressed his commitment to continue working hard for the remainder of his term. “I will complete this term fully committed to my work and serving the people of Utah. I am grateful for the trust and support of my constituents and will continue to fight for their values and beliefs until the end of my term,” he said.

Owens’ decision not to seek reelection has come as a surprise to many, as he has been a rising star in the Republican party. However, he has assured his supporters that he will remain active in politics and will continue to fight for conservative principles.

“I may not be seeking reelection, but I will not be stepping away from the fight. I will continue to be a strong voice for the people of Utah and will work to ensure that their voices are heard in Washington,” Owens stated.

Owens’ announcement comes at a time when many House Republicans have also decided not to run for Congress again this year. This mass exodus has raised concerns about the future of the Republican party and its ability to maintain control of the House.

However, Owens remains optimistic about the future of the party and believes that new leaders will emerge to carry on the conservative values that he has fought for. “I have full faith in the Republican party and its ability to continue to fight for the American people. I am confident that new leaders will step up to carry on the torch and lead our party to victory,” he said.

In conclusion, Rep. Burgess Owens’ decision not to seek reelection in 2026 is a personal one, but it is also a testament to his dedication to his family and his constituents. He has been a strong and unwavering voice for conservative values and will be greatly missed in Congress. However, his legacy will continue to inspire and guide future leaders in the Republican party.
