However, with such a diverse range of societies, it’s not uncommon to hear some wild and crazy stories. We spoke with one student to get a glimpse into this mysterious world of societies.
As we sat down with Sarah, a final year student at the university, her eyes lit up as she began to share her experiences with societies. “I must say, I’ve heard some very crazy stories about societies,” she chuckled. “But you know what? It’s all part of the fun and adventure of being a part of one.”
Sarah went on to explain that she had joined the drama society in her first year, and it had been one of the best decisions she had made. “I’ve always loved acting, but I never had the courage to pursue it. Joining this society not only provided me with a safe space to explore my passion but also pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’ve made some amazing friends and unforgettable memories through our rehearsals and performances.”

She admitted to being fascinated by the mystery surrounding some of the more unconventional societies on campus. “I’ve heard rumors about a secret society that only accepts members through invitation. It’s said that they hold exclusive events with elaborate rituals and ceremonies. Honestly, I have no idea if it’s true or just a myth, but it definitely adds to the intrigue.”
It’s not just the mysterious societies that pique the interest of students. Sarah shared another story about a society that organized a “random acts of kindness” week on campus. “They had different activities every day, such as giving out free hugs, complimenting strangers, and even organizing a flash mob to spread joy and positivity. It was heartwarming to see the impact it had on the campus community.”
Of course, with so many societies and their various events, there are bound to be some mishaps. Sarah laughed as she recounted a hilarious incident from a sports society’s event. “They had organized a game of human foosball, where participants were strapped onto poles and had to play the game. Let’s just say it didn’t go as planned, and there were a lot of falls and tumbles. But it was all good fun, and we still talk about it to this day.”
Apart from the fun and excitement, societies also provide students with valuable skills and experiences. Sarah shared how being a part of the debate society had helped her improve her public speaking and critical thinking skills. “I used to be terrified of speaking in public, but the society helped me overcome that fear. I’ve also learned to look at issues from different perspectives, which has been very beneficial in my studies.”
As our conversation came to an end, Sarah reflected on her time at university and how societies had enriched her experience. “One of the best things about societies is that they bring people from diverse backgrounds together, united by a common interest. It’s a chance to meet new people, learn new things, and have a lot of fun along the way.”
