Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi, recently shared his fond memories of the late Deputy President, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, during a memorial service held in her honour. Lesufi, who served as a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ANC Youth League alongside Dlamini-Zuma, also took the opportunity to remember another influential figure in his life – former Mpumalanga Premier, David Mabuza.
Lesufi fondly recalled his time working with Mabuza, who is now the Deputy President of South Africa, and described him as a guiding figure who played a significant role in shaping his political career.
“I remember David Mabuza as a guiding figure, someone who always had a vision and a plan for the future. He was a true leader who always put the needs of the people first,” said Lesufi.
The MEC went on to share how Mabuza’s leadership style and mentorship had a profound impact on him, both personally and professionally.
“He was always willing to listen and offer guidance, even to those who were younger and less experienced. He had a way of making everyone feel valued and important,” Lesufi added.
Lesufi’s sentiments were echoed by many others who also spoke at the memorial service, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, who praised Mabuza for his dedication to the struggle for freedom and his unwavering commitment to the people of South Africa.
Mabuza, who was affectionately known as “DD”, was a prominent figure in the liberation struggle and played a crucial role in the formation of the ANC Youth League. He was also instrumental in the establishment of the Mpumalanga ANC Youth League branch, which Lesufi was a part of.
The MEC also highlighted Mabuza’s role in the education sector, where he championed the building of schools and improving access to education for all. This is a cause that Lesufi is deeply passionate about and has been working tirelessly to achieve in his role as the Gauteng Education MEC.
“I am grateful for the lessons I learned from DD, particularly in the education sector. He always emphasized the importance of education and its power to change lives. This is a belief that I share and strive to uphold in my work,” said Lesufi.
Mabuza’s legacy continues to live on through the many lives he has touched and inspired, including that of Panyaza Lesufi. His passing has left a void in the political landscape, but his teachings and values will continue to guide and shape the leaders of tomorrow.
In conclusion, MEC Lesufi’s tribute to David Mabuza serves as a reminder of the impact that one person can have on the lives of others. Mabuza’s leadership and mentorship have left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of working with him, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. As we mourn the loss of a great leader, let us also celebrate his life and the positive influence he had on those around him.
