Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has strongly condemned the recent visit of EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu to the Enlightened Christian Gathering (ECG) church in Malawi, led by controversial self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri.
In a statement released by the Department of Communications, Minister Kubayi expressed her disappointment and disapproval of Shivambu’s actions, stating that it goes against the values and principles of the South African government.
“South Africa is a secular state and as such, our leaders should not be seen endorsing or promoting any particular religious group or leader. It is highly inappropriate for a public figure like Mr. Shivambu to be seen associating with a controversial figure like Shepherd Bushiri,” the Minister stated.
She further emphasized that the government does not support or condone any form of religious extremism or manipulation, and that the actions of Shivambu are not in line with the country’s commitment to promoting religious tolerance and diversity.
The Minister also expressed her concern over the negative impact that Shivambu’s visit may have on the EFF’s image and credibility. “As leaders, we have a responsibility to uphold the values and principles of our political parties and the country as a whole. Mr. Shivambu’s actions have brought the EFF into disrepute and we urge him to publicly distance himself from the controversial prophet,” she said.
The visit to Bushiri’s church has sparked widespread criticism and outrage, with many questioning the motives behind Shivambu’s actions. Some have accused him of using the visit as a political stunt to gain support from the controversial prophet’s followers.
In response to the backlash, Shivambu defended his visit, stating that he was there to show support for Bushiri who is facing criminal charges in South Africa. However, this explanation has not been well received by the public, with many still questioning the appropriateness of his actions.
The Minister’s condemnation of Shivambu’s visit has been welcomed by many, with some calling for the EFF to take disciplinary action against him. The party has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
In conclusion, Minister Kubayi’s strong stance against Shivambu’s visit to Bushiri’s church sends a clear message that the South African government does not tolerate any form of religious extremism or manipulation. It also serves as a reminder to all public figures to act responsibly and in line with the values and principles of the country. Let us all strive to promote religious tolerance and diversity, and not let our personal beliefs and agendas overshadow our duty to serve the people of South Africa.
