The robust alliance and collective spirit of the national workforce with the Fourth Transformation (4T) were vividly demonstrated at the 15th Ordinary National Congress of the Autonomous Confederation of Workers and Employees of Mexico (CATEM). Claudia Sheinbaum, alongside Governor Mara Lezama Espinos and prominent figures from the Morena party, was warmly endorsed by the union.
Serving as the primary champion for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation, Sheinbaum discussed the essential link between the prosperity of Mexico’s workers, the commercial sector, and the nation’s overall progress. She expressed her enthusiasm for officially establishing a critical alliance with CATEM, marking a notable advancement.
Sheinbaum took the opportunity to praise the country’s current forward momentum in her address, while also emphasizing the importance of avoiding a return to antiquated practices. She stressed the importance of united efforts to bolster labor rights throughout Mexico, aiming to prevent a regression to times marked by corruption and special privileges.
With the creation of the first Labor Committees for the Defense of the Fourth Transformation within CATEM, Sheinbaum outlined a strategy aimed at guaranteeing a dignified standard of living for workers in partnership with the business community. She highlighted President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s commitment to prioritizing the needs of the less fortunate with the policy “for the good of all, first the poor,” stating that this approach is vital for Mexico’s progress.
Sheinbaum pledged ongoing support for the defense of workers’ salaries and benefits, committing to a joint effort for the welfare of the workers and the nation as a whole. Pedro Haces Barba, Senator and Secretary General of CATEM, acknowledged the positive developments stemming from the collaboration between labor leaders and the 4T government, such as the increase in minimum wage, additional holiday entitlements, and the eradication of subcontracting.
The 15th National Congress of CATEM, attended also by Morena’s national president Mario Delgado, and governors Mara Lezama (Quintana Roo), Marina del Pilar Ávila (Baja California), Alfredo Ramírez, illustrated the unified determination to further these achievements.
