Tributes have been paid to a “cherished” 18-year-old who has died suddenly following an incident in north Wales. Chloe Bidwell was a carpentry apprentice who had won several awards and who was popular with friends and colleagues.
Chloe died on Wednesday following an incident at a property she was understood to be working on in Bangor. Her death is not being treated as suspicious and police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding it. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter
Tributes have now been paid by Chloe’s college and former school, North Wales Live reports. A spokesman for Coleg Menai said: “We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of one of our learners, Chloe Bidwell. Chloe, a talented carpentry apprentice at Coleg Menai, won numerous national awards and was well-liked by everyone. We know that her loss will be felt by many and we send our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Our specialist staff will provide support to any learner or member of staff who has been affected by this sad news.”

Staff and students at her former school, Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi in Holyhead, were also said to be devastated by the tragedy. In a post on their Facebook page, the school said: “It is with deep sadness, we acknowledge the passing of our cherished ex-pupil, Chloe Bidwell. Chloe was an individual whose presence resonated deeply with all staff and her peers. “Her infectious energy, kindness, dedication and her vibrant spirit that lit up the classroom effortlessly won the hearts of every staff member. Chloe was a testament to the boundless potential within each of us.
"She flew the flag for female construction workers having achieved a gold medal at Skills Competition Wales. Her passion for joinery wasn’t merely a skill; it was a testament to her determination to break barriers and pave the way for future generations of young girls. She dared to forge a path in a field often deemed unconventional, embodying courage and resilience in the face of stereotypes. As we show appreciation to a bright soul, let us carry forth Chloe’s legacy – her unwavering determination, her compassionate spirit, and her boundless enthusiasm. Let us honour her memory by embracing life with the same perspective, by chasing our dreams relentlessly, and by spreading kindness wherever we go. Our condolences go out to all of Chloe’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
A spokesperson for North Wales Police said earlier on Friday: “Police attended a property on Deiniol Road in Bangor on Wednesday December 20th following a report of the unexpected death of an 18-year-old woman. The coroner and Health and Safety Executive have been informed and we continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, which is not being treated as suspicious.”
