One of Swansea's most beloved entertainers is celebrating the news that he has been given the all clear from cancer. Kev Johns, who is currently starring as Dame Penny Pockets in Swansea Grand Theatre's annual pantomime Cinderella, will have been walking onto the stage with an extra spring in his step after getting off the phone to his oncologist to tell him his latest scans showed no sign of the condition.
He told his followers on social media platform X on Thursday, December 28: "Just spoke to my oncologist who had my latest scan results and it showed that there are no signs of cancer." The 62-year-old recently divulged how he had been receiving treatment for the disease over the past 18 months. He was initially told that his stage four cancer had no cure, but after a course of immunotherapy, followed by surgery, he is now cancer free.
A routine blood test in March 2021 highlighted an iron deficiency and a subsequent CT scan revealed he had an unexplained mass on one of his kidneys, which his doctor admitted looked sinister.
