Article (900 words):
After a two decade long hiatus from professional tennis, German tennis legend Boris Becker is making a return to the court as he has unexpectedly joined forces with Danish top-seeded tennis star Holger Rune. Becker’s coaching journey began in 2017, as he mentored Alexander Zverev quickly becoming a well-known name in the coaching world. After his split from Zverev, he then joined forces with French coach Patrick Mouratoglou, who currently coaches Serena Williams.
Now, Becker is back into the tennis scene as he takes on the challenge of mentoring young, upcoming talent that Rune is. He believes that he can bring the same kind of success to Rune and his career, that he was able to bring to Zverev. Along with the partnership, Becker made a staggering statement about the future of tennis and the possibility of three players from the current generation achieving a record twenty Grand Slams.
The statement comes across as a kick in the gut for young Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz, who currently ranked at number 162 in the ATP Rankings. Alcaraz, being the youngest player currently in the men’s ATP rankings, has made an uproar in the tennis world, with many believing that he could be the next Grand Slam winner of this generation. However, Becker believes that the chances of three players from this generation achieving a record of twenty Grand Slams is a “fantasy”, that is impossible.
Becker believes that this generation currently lacks a few players that could potentially achieve the record, and the biggest roadblock is that players with an attitude like Rafael Nadal, who don’t take the game for granted, are missing. He believes that only player that is currently playing in this generation that could possibly achieve a record of twenty Grand Slams is his former student Alexander Zverev.
However, even though he has been critical about the future of young players like Alcaraz, he is positive about his upcoming partnership with Rune and believes that he can help him reach his full potential and take his game to the next level. Becker believes that Rune has a great foundation and the potential to reach the top ten of the ATP rankings, and through tuning his technique and tactics, he can reach that goal.
Becker has already started working with Rune and he is extremely happy with the progress that his student has made. He believes that, if Rune is able to remain consistent with his training, he could definitely be within the top ten of the ATP rankings in the next couple of years. With the help of Becker’s vast experience and knowledge of the game, Rune could be a scary opponent that will no doubt gain a great deal of respect from other players on the tour.
Even though Becker may have been critical about the future of young players like Alcaraz, he believes in the potential of Rune and helping him reach his goals in his career. Only time will tell if the partnership between Rune and Becker will be successful in the long run, but one thing is for sure, it will definitely be interesting to follow.
