Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell’s Health Episodes Show No Evidence of Strokes or Seizures
On Tuesday, the Capitol physician released a letter following a medical evaluation and consultation with neurologists that stated there is “no evidence” of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell having suffered any strokes or seizures.
The statement came after McConnell, 78, had been seen stumbling and appearing unsteady on his feet at a Senate Republican press conference on Monday. The episode was the second time in as many weeks that McConnell had been seen having difficulty walking.
McConnell’s office released a statement on Tuesday saying that the Senate Republican leader had undergone a “comprehensive evaluation” and that the Capitol physician had determined that “there is no evidence of a stroke or seizure.”
The statement said that McConnell’s medical evaluation included “a CT scan of the brain, an echocardiogram, a carotid ultrasound, a full neurological exam, and lab work.”
The statement also said that McConnell had been advised to “take it easy” and to “limit his public schedule” in order to “allow for further evaluation.”
McConnell, who is the longest-serving Senate Republican leader in U.S. history, is known for his tireless work ethic and has been an advocate for conservative causes throughout his career.
The news that McConnell’s health episodes are not related to strokes or seizures is a relief to many, including his family and friends.
McConnell’s wife, former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, released a statement expressing her gratitude for the outpouring of support and well wishes.
“We’re grateful for the outpouring of support and warm wishes that we’ve received over the past few days,” Chao said in the statement. “We’re especially thankful for the medical professionals who have provided Senator McConnell with the best care and advice.”
McConnell’s colleagues on both sides of the aisle have also expressed their support for the Senate Republican leader.
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said in a statement that he wished McConnell a “speedy recovery” and praised him for his “tireless service to the country.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is also being praised for his dedication to serving the country. His commitment to public service and his willingness to put politics aside for the betterment of the nation have been a source of inspiration for many.
McConnell’s health episodes have been a reminder that even the most powerful figures in politics are not invincible. His willingness to seek medical attention and to take the advice of medical professionals is a testament to his commitment to his health and to the nation he serves.
We wish Senator McConnell a speedy recovery and hope that he is able to return to his regular schedule soon.
